Books for Life

I recently wrote a piece about a book list that had been compiled to make you happy.  I have it included in this Happiness chapter but the truth is that five or so books in and I am not inspired by many of them.  They just didn’t hit the spot.

I am including now a challenging list that will take a huge amount of time to read.  It is a list that comes on the back of a talk that I just watched online,  by the multi-millionaire Jim Rohn – 3 Keys to Greatness.  He mentioned in his talk that one of the keys to greatness is:

If you change you, everything will change.

He started young, broke and in a dead end job and had the fortune to meet an extremely wise mentor who told him that instead of waiting for the winds to change, that he should set a better sail.

He was advised to make goal, revise his financial strategy and work on self development.

He was told:

Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.

This involved learning new vocabulary, learning to read widely and to develop new skills and confidence.

One of the first things that he did was to start reading and one of the first books that he reached for was:

How to Read a Book by Mortimer J. Adler Charles Lincoln Van Doren

In this book was a book list that they compiled.  This book list shows you through the power of literature how to change you.  How to set that sail a little differently.  How to aim higher, how to reach for more.

You can find a copy of that book list at the following web address:

So be baffled, be overawed but go get out one of those books and let it start to re-shape your life.
